Leslie Bender studied at Pratt Institute, Bennington College, and the Art Students League.
Museums throughout New York State have exhibited Bender’s work, including: the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University; the New York State Museum; the Dorsky Museum of Art, SUNY New Paltz.
A masterful muralist she has executed murals including Great Women Chefs of America, for the Culinary Institute of America; and Hebrew Educational Society (a work that measures five by eighty feet).
To describe Bender’s work is a challenge because of its breadth of style, subject matter and psychological layering. Colorful, exciting and challenging, all apply. Shocking, painful and arresting, also seem appropriate. Just take a look!
