| Charles Rosen · Bridge, Bucks County Pennsylvania · 32.5x40
·
oil on canvas Charles Rosen first came to Woodstock in 1918. He had been selected to be the director of the Art Students League's summer art school headquartered in the well established art colony. The Armory Show and a permanent move from New Hope, Pennsylvania to Woodstock, New York in 1920 changed Rosen's life and work forever. He eschewed his early style of impressioninst/tonalist landscape painting which had brought him such early aclaim. This may be his last Bucks County painting and shows his fascination with manmade structures as a compliment to nature. This piece is considered a discovery as it was found on the verso of a later work. Careful cleaning and restoration revealed this superior work. It was finished and ready for viewing in December 2007 -JC |
