Fine Art Appraisals
We offer certified appraisals for a single piece of art or entire collections and estates.
James Cox (IFAA) began his appraisal career as director of New York’s Grand Central Art Galleries. In that capacity he documented the value of art for the galleries’ clients, the American Art Dealers Association, museums, the Internal Revenue Service, corporations, and banks. Over the last forty years his expertise has grown as he has been frequently called upon to appraise artwork for individuals, attorneys, city and state governments and public institutions.
Reasons to have an appraisal done:
- Insurance coverage
- Estate planning and equitable distribution
- Donations to museums and non-profit organizations
- Pre-sale value determination
- Loans to exhibitions
- Documents required for taxes
- Damage and loss reports
Minimum charge for an appraisal is one hundred dollars.
Appraisals are billed at fifteen hundred dollars per day plus expenses (e.g. out of town travel).
Many appraisals require one quarter or one half day to complete.
You are invited to contact us to discuss your possible need for an appraisal.
